What is Ash wEdnesday?

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the season of reflection before Easter, known as Lent.

The period of Lent begins with Ash Wednesday and ends with Holy Week. Observed most often in liturgical churches, Ash Wednesday is marked by a ceremony called “The Imposition of the Ashes.” During this ceremony, ashes are used to draw a cross on the believer’s forehead. The believer is then reminded that man comes from dust and shall return to dust (Genesis 3:19), a statement of man’s humility before the Creator.

Join us on February 18 for a morning prayer service at 6:30am, for the imposition of the ashes and a time of contemplation as we begin the journey toward Easter. If you are unable to come at 6:30am, you may come to the church office through 10:30am for imposition of the ashes and a time of reflection.
